“The Power of a Godly Mother”

Dear Believer(s):

We read in the Bible (Word of God) about great spiritual Mothers who trusted, believed, and had faith in the Lord. Because of their obedience, boldness and going to God in their time of distress and troubles, they received unusual blessings, victories, healings, and miracles. I encourage Mothers today to have faith in God as the Mothers of Biblical Times.  We are still serving the same God. The Bible says, in Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.”

As you read about the great Biblical Mothers of yesterday, believe what God did for them and realize that today there are godly Mothers who are doing great exploits in the name of Jesus. There are many saved Mothers today whose prayers are being answered. There are born again Mothers who are filled with the Holy Ghost and are receiving miracles from God. Others are yielded vessels of God and He is using them to further His kingdom.

If you are a God believing Mother today, have committed your life to Him, you can expect to receive the blessings and miracles of God. Mothers, remain obedient, keep on sowing into the Kingdom of God and never give up. The Word of God says, Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” (Psalm 34:19) Jesus said, “And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)

As you read the following stories of God’s famous Mothers, be reminded God loves you too, and He will and can perform miracles for you.

Let’s look at the wisdom and spiritual sensitivity of this Biblical Mother found in 1Kings Chapter 17. God sends Elijah to a town called Zarephath. God tells Elijah that there is a widow woman there who will feed him. Please read the entire 17th Chapter of 1Kings so that you can get the complete story. There is no food in the land; people are dying because of a famine.  The famine was caused by Elijah because he spoke for it not to rain for three years.  He arrives at Zarephath and asks a widow woman who has a son to prepare for him food to eat.  The widow woman tells the prophet, “I only have a handful of meal and a little oil.  I am gathering sticks to make a fire and prepare our last meal.  My son and I will eat it and die.”  But the prophet tells the woman,Fear not, make me a little cake first, and then make one for yourself and your son.  “For the Lord God of Israel says, “the barrel of meal will not give out nor will the oil fail until the day that the Lord sends rain.”   This widow woman was obedient to the man of God and the Spirit of God that was in him.  Because of her spiritual sensitivity and obedience, she and her son were greatly blessed and had food to eat until the famine ended.

1Samuel Chapter 1, we find the story of Hannah.  Hannah could not have children.  Finally she prayed unto the Lord, “and she vowed a vow, and said “O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.” (1Samuel 1:11) The Lord answered Hannah’s prayer and she kept her vow to God.  Her son Samuel grew up to become a great prophet, a priest, and a yielded obedient vessel for God.

In Exodus Chapter 2, Jochebed, the Mother of Moses illustrates the power of a godly Mother.  She put her three-month-old baby in a handmade basket and hid him on the waters of the Nile River. She did this to protect him from Pharaoh’s mandate to kill all the male Hebrew children. Jochebed did not know that God would use her son to deliver the Israelite people from Egyptian bondage. A godly Mother’s trust in God changed the lives of God’s people.

In Luke Chapter 1, we find that Elizabeth belonged to a priestly family.  She was married to a priest by the name of Zechariah.  They both lived good lives in God’s sight and obeyed fully all the Lord’s laws and commands.  They had no children because Elizabeth could not have any. She and Zechariah were both very old.  But in their old age God answered their prayer.  Elizabeth became the Mother of John the Baptist, who was the cousin of Jesus Christ.  God honored Elizabeth’s faithfulness; she and her husband thought it was too late for them, but God does the impossible for the righteous.

In Luke Chapter 1, the angel Gabriel visits Mary and tells her she has found favor with God. “And, behold, thou shalt conceive in they womb, and bring fourth a son, and shalt call His name JESUS.   He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his Kingdom there shall be no end.” (Luke 1: 31-33) Mary’s final reply to the angel Gabriel was, “behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.”  Mary believed the message from God and gave birth to the Savior of the world.

Mothers, are you being lead by the Spirit of God?  Do you trust God to solve all your problems?  Have you given your children to God?   A Mother’s love and sensitivity to the Spirit of God brings great blessings upon her and her household.

God is using Mothers today. Mothers who love God are being used to bring about His will.  The suffering Mothers endure; the trials they are put through and the love they give; is only known by God.

Mothers, God loves you.  He sees your hurt, your pain, and your broken hearts.  He has instilled within you great faith, patience, truth, and great love.  Jesus said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews13:5) This is why Mothers are able to go on and on. Jesus is living on the inside of them.  The Holy Spirit teaches, guides, leads and empowers them. Lord, we thank you for the preciousness, obedience, and love of Mothers.

If you are a Mother who desires special prayer, please write to me with your request. Fill out the enclosed prayer request form and mail it to me.  The Bible says, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.”  (Psalm 34:19) In James 5:16, it says, “the effectual fervent prayer of a righteousness man availeth much.”  I will stand with you regarding your prayer needs. Mothers, let’s believe God for the impossible to happen in answer to our prayers.

Listen very carefully, if you are a Mother who has not accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior; let me lead you to Christ right now. Please pray this prayer of confession aloud. I confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and that He is the Son of God. I believe in my heart that God raised Him up from the dead. I thank you Lord for coming into my heart right now. Teach me to walk in all of your ways for evermore. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen! If you have prayed this prayer and accepted Jesus Christ into your heart, please write to me.  I will send you a Bible and I want to help you in your walk with Christ.

Let me remind those of you, who receive the monthly ministry letter, don’t forget to pray and allow God to speak to your heart about supporting His work.  I need your help and according to God’s Word, I know that when you give, you will be blessed according to Luke 6:38.

Let’s pray: “Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for Mothers.  How precious they are to you and to all of us.  Lord, what would we do without them?  We ask that you bless them in a special way.  Perform miracles in their lives and in the lives of their family members.  Save the souls of lost Mothers.  Lord, for the Mothers who love and serve you, grant them the desires of their hearts.  Thank you God for Mothers; we pray in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.”  Amen!

“I pray a special blessing of God upon all Mothers as you celebrate Mother’s Day!”

With Love & Special Prayers,

Thomas Oglesby
